Friends of India fights poverty and creates opportunities for women and children in Tamil Nadu, South India by supporting basic education for under-served children and investing in vocational training and life-skills development for women.
For the past 15 years we have been involved in:
Providing classrooms and teachers, and adding toilets to schools
Creating a fully-equipped music school for blind and visually impaired children
Building orphanages and providing a home and training centre for children infected by HIV AIDS
Training entrepreneurial women to build their own businesses
Providing kindergartens with smokeless stoves
Distributing solar lamps to remote tribal villages
…and many other projects – all with the aim of helping women and children defy poverty by improving their learning environment and encouraging them to aim for a better life.
