Friends of India fights poverty and creates opportunities for children and women in Tamil Nadu, South India by supporting basic education for under-served children and investing in vocational training, life-skills development and income generating activities for women.
A non-profit, charitable organisation, Friends of India was founded in 2001 by its current President Pamela Walsh, OBE. Friends of India is entirely dependent on voluntary donations.
We value the right to education for all and believe learning and access to opportunity can substantially improve the lives of those we serve, who come from some of the poorest communities in Tamil Nadu. Guided by the needs and hopes of these communities, we work closely with local partners to best serve our clients. We share the results of our work with our supporters whom we value as meaningful partners. We demand the highest ethical behaviour of our members, board, staff, partners and beneficiaries. We honour the dignity of our beneficiaries, recognize the contributions of our partners, and uphold respect for local Indian values in our work.
