Friends of India works in close partnership with local organizations in Tamil Nadu to carry out its mission. Our partners include:
- The Sacred Heart Brothers Congregation
This charitable trust is based in Palayamkottai, Tamil Nadu and provides opportunities for children from backward and marginalized groups to pursue education and vocational skills training. It supports boarding homes for orphans, special schools for children with disability, educational assistance to children from the rural poor and conducts skills training for dropouts.
We are currently working with the Sacred Heart Brothers in two of our projects – The Richard Walsh School of Music for the Blind in Arni and The Friendship Home for vulnerable and orphaned children living with HIV in Tirunelveli.
- Seb’s Projects India
A nongovernmental organization based in the Vellore District of Tamil Nadu, Seb’s Projects has a primary focus of working in education with rural, slum and isolated communities. For the past 5 years they have been working on community health programs and improving livelihoods in the tribal Jawadhi Hills region. We are currently working with Seb’s Projects to provide and distribute solar lamps to these tribal villages.
- Eden Home
The Eden Home is a registered charitable organization that houses and cares for 30 orphaned girls in Tirunelveli. We have helped in the purchase of land and construction of their orphanage and are now helping them set up a dairy farm so that they can become self sustainable.
- Sisters of the Sacred Heart
This charitable trust looks after orphaned and mentally challenged children from rural areas. We have been working with the Sisters of the Sacred Heart to improve the living accommodation and facilities for the 150 children at their orphanage in Thiruthani, and also to improve the facilities at their home for 120 mentally challenged women and girls in Tirunelveli.
- Society for the Upliftment of the Economically Backward (SUEB)
We have worked with SUEB to establish social education, vocational training and microfinance opportunities in poor communities. Jointly we have supported programs to help the communities of Arni and Medavakkam.
- Coastal and Rural Development Trust (CARDT)
We work in the coastal village of Kovalam with CARDT, a small community based non-profit. Together, we have worked to expand basic education for children and provide vocational training and income generation opportunities to women.
- Anbumalar Social Service Vision (ASSV)
We have worked in partnership with ASSV in poor communities outside of Chennai. With ASSV and Don du Choeur we have helped to establish a special school for children with severe learning disabilities.
- Tamil Nadu Foundation (TNF)
We have worked with the TNF to provide education and vocational training to underprivileged communities. We also run our Klean Kitchens for Kids program in partnership with TNF. More on TNF: www.tnfusa.org.
