IGFM Human Rights Award

In 2010 the Swiss section of the International Association for Human Rights (IGFM) awarded a new prize – “A Hymn to Life” – to Friends of India and another group, “Ecoles de la Terre”, for their work in education. The award was presented at Geneva’s Theatre du Leman in a colourful ceremony and concert.

Richard Walsh Music School

The Richard Walsh Music School (began 2009) runs in the Amalarakkini School for the Blind in a village near Arni. The project provides music teaching to the blind children of the school, orphans from the neighboring regular school and to underprivileged children from the surrounding rural area.

Balagurukulam and Kancheepuram

Friends of India has helped Balagurukulam orphanage in Ambattur (suburbs of Chennai) expand support to needy children. Numerous Indian schools where Friends of India works, such as the one in Kancheepuram, have received classrooms, supplies and uniforms from generous donors.
